As of July 11, 2020 the Tri-Cities Alano Club Board of Directors approved the continued closure of the Club building due to the ongoing threat to public health presented by the Covid-19 pandemic. Our reasoning is based on the following assessment of current conditions:
1. The COVID-19 situation is deteriorating nationally, and is also deteriorating within Region 2 of Michigan. Our region (which includes Ottawa, Kent and Muskegon Counties) has within the past week been moved from “Moderate Risk” of infection to “High Risk.”
2. The mask policy previously adopted by the Board has not been readily complied with by attendees at the Club, and has proven difficult if not impossible to enforce. The Governor has made masks mandatory in a “business” setting and is requiring that such policies be actively enforced. Not wearing a mask is now a misdemeanor.
3. Contact tracing has proven difficult (in our one experience), because of our program’s “anonymous” nature and because it is almost impossible to obtain an accurate list of which attendees may have been exposed, last names of those persons, addresses, telephone numbers, etc. Many attendees are also nervous about having personal information turned over to the Health Department, although such action is required by law.
The Board will continue to monitor the situation and when conditions change that would allow re-opening of the Club we will make that announcement on this website, by email and phone lists. We regret having to make this decision and hope to re-open the building for meetings as soon as possible.
